How can students request to see the school counselor or school social worker?
Students can request to see the school counselor or social worker in the following ways:
-
Self-Referral: Students can fill out a request form available in the counselor/social worker’s office or mailbox.
-
Teacher Referral: Teachers may refer students to the counselor/social worker if they feel additional support is needed.
-
Parent/Guardian Referral: Parents or guardians can contact the counselor/social worker directly to request a meeting for their child.
The school counselor/social worker is here to support students with academic, social, and emotional needs. If you have questions, please reach out to the counseling office.
What is the confidentiality policy for counseling sessions?
Conversations with the school counselor/social worker are confidential to ensure students feel safe sharing their thoughts and feelings. However, there are certain situations where confidentiality must be broken to ensure the safety of the student or others. These situations include:
-
If the student shares information about being hurt or at risk of harm.
-
If the student shares intentions to harm themselves or others.
-
If the counselor is legally required to share information, such as in cases of suspected abuse or neglect.
In these cases, the counselor will work closely with the student and appropriate parties to ensure their safety and well-being. If you have questions about confidentiality, please contact the Student Services office.
